Hideo Kojima has revealed new details about the highly anticipated sequel Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, including insights into how the game’s photo mode will not only be a fun creative tool for players but also serve an important function in advancing the story.
Death Stranding 2’s Photo Mode
Kojima Productions showcased new footage and details about Death Stranding 2 at Tokyo Game Show 2024. Attendees got a glimpse at returning characters like Sam Porter Bridges, Fragile, and Hartman, as well as new faces like actress Elle Fanning’s character Tomorrow.
According to Kojima, Tomorrow will play a pivotal role in the plot. Her character is found in an otherworldly location, hinting she may hold clues about the game’s overarching theme of “tomorrow.”
Perhaps most notably, Kojima shed light on how the photo mode will enhance the narrative experience. He stated players should “take good pictures” as the game characters may pose or interact differently depending on if their photo is taken. This suggests photo mode will grant opportunities to affect character moments and progress the plot in unique ways.
While stopping short of a firm release date, Kojima said fans will learn when to expect Death Stranding 2 in 2025. Development is ongoing with the director pursuing an even more unconventional experience than the original game. Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is slated as a PlayStation 5 console exclusive.
